History
The Hinton Family of Jewellers now spans four generations, being one of the oldest established jewellery names in Australia.

Shane Hinton, Master Jeweller and Hand Chisel Engraver's legacy started when his Great Grandmother started the jewellery name of Hinton in 1864. When her husband was killed in a bullock cart accident in the Adelaide Hills town of Belair she bought and sold jewellery to feed her family of 5. The Hinton name in jewellery lived on through her sons, first being Hinton Bros. in the early 1900's, then Hinton & Son spanning two generations through to 1987 when Shane Hinton pursued his passion and love of traditional jewellery. His love of the master craftsmanship led him to the world of hand chisel engraving. Shane's appreciation of fine jewellery craftsmanship started in the early 1970's and he still remembers as a treat his father would let him comb through the drawers of his father's old John Tann safe. His family brought the safe out from England in the late 1800's and he had generations of jewellery at his fingertips and his fascination and frustration of wondering how the beautiful ornate pieces were created began.
His fascination became a passion and now being perhaps a young jeweller for his 30 years experience he has channelled his vast experience into a contemporary form capturing the old with the new. His trademarked name, "Initially" cleverly captures the century-old craft of hand engraving into a form that in itself can become generational. The Initially Banglz can tell a whole life story, combined with the Initially Pendant, all hand-made and chisel carved to capture those close to you, with the Initially Spinner Signet coming soon, and Initially Rose, for the lovers of rose gold, all handmade and unique.
Shane now continues the name of Hinton in Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills. Being established in this town since 2003 he is pleased to present The "Initially" Range exclusively from this location, surrounded by beautiful wineries and artisan businesses, it seems appropriate that the name Hinton leaves its footprint here.
